Located northwest of London, ON, the expansion of Union Gas' Lobo Compressor Station was completed over two phases in 2010 and 2011.
Raven Construction was responsible for all civil activities associated with the expansion of the facility. Our scope included:
- Site prepartaion and grading activities in support of temporary construction facilities including: parking, laydown and construction trailers
- Excavation and backfill in support of large and small bore piping and electrical services
- Cast-in-Place concrete foundations for after coolers, scrubbers, pipe supports and recycle buildings
- Construction of new plant access road
- Installation of perimiter fencing
- Final grading
Highlights
- As the project was executed within an existing operating facility, trenching for large bore piping was very challenging due to the complexity of installing new piping through existing underground services which then had to be tied into the existing faciliyt.
- Rainfall over the course of the project was 30% above the norm. This resulted in considerable challenges due to wet site conditions and dewatering of multiple excavations simultaneously.
